The job holder’s primary responsibilities will be to:

 

·      Drive, shape and lead a range of analytics projects within a team, ensuring the timely and accurate delivery of these projects by delegating effectively to designated analysts and offshore teams.

·      Contribute to and have influence on the project planning process, liaising with stakeholders and project sponsors on a regular basis.

·      Prioritise and delegate planned projects, whilst effectively managing and challenging requests for unplanned or ad-hoc work.

·      Be accountable for the integrity and accuracy of delivered results.

·      Positively support the vision and strategy of the department, working with the Senior Leadership Team to engage and motivate team members.

·      Provide designated analysts with project opportunities that will enable them to develop their skills and knowledge base, by offering variety and challenges in the projects that they undertake.

·      Develop and maintain a productive relationship with the offshore analytics teams.

·      Where necessary, interact with the regulators and/or external suppliers.

·      Act as a role model for colleagues and subordinates.

 

This role requires a specific set of skills and experience that combine the knowledge of statistical and data driven strategies plus extensive knowledge of RBWM businesses. The job holder is expected to employ innovative and logical thinking, along with advanced analytic techniques, to solve a variety of business issues.

·      Develop, implement and maintain data driven solutions to assist RBWM businesses in achieving profit and growth targets (AOP).

·      Take measures and implement solutions that minimise risk and bad debt, contributing to the delivery of the bad debt and fraud loss budget.

·      Provide support and expert advice to business areas where queries arise regarding risk strategies, acting as an ambassador of risk analytics.

·      Oversee the production of credit risk management information (MI) to monitor the impact of risk decisions on customers and portfolio behaviour, and deliver accurate, logical and insightful commentary alongside the MI.

·      Define and deliver a variety of analyses to mange credit portfolios against agreed performance indicators.

·      Ensure, through accurate specifications, testing and post implementation reviews, that solutions devised from their projects are implemented accurately and with the associated benefits being manifested.

·    Meeting growing business and regulatory needs, in an environment of strong cost control and high demand for analytics.

 

·    Operating within highly specific adverse economic conditions of rising bad debts and reduced take up of financial products amongst the entire customer base.

·    Co-ordinating analytics strategy and interaction across diverse teams in different countries and global locations

 

·    Understanding and communicating priorities with major stakeholders.

 

·    Supporting with delivery new innovation, and key regulatory activities such as Point of Sale delivery, critical deliverables such as stage 2 & 3 interventions for Overdraft Repeat Use strategy over the next 12 months, Eligibility checker strategies which have a regulator focus and maintenance of Affordability strategies to meet latest FCA requirements.

Role Context (The environment and operating conditions of the role including the extent of guidance and authority)

 

·    Working with Credit Risk, Retail Risk Analytics plays a key role in developing data driven, automated solutions and in the monitoring of current processes to support the CRM and operational teams in managing risk, at both transactional and portfolio levels and setting policy and procedures.

 

·    The importance of optimal data driven solutions for capital and credit decisions cannot be over-emphasised. The bank has moved into a new regulatory environment where capital comes at a premium and puts returns under pressure. The need to clearly understand drivers of credit losses, capital and income, and develop appropriate capital and LIC planning and risk v return decisions becomes paramount to unlocking optimal capital deployment, and maximising return for the RBWM businesses. Getting it wrong can have damaging and irretrievable impact on the bank – it is vital therefore that the right management and structure are in place to ensure success.

 

·    The jobholder is responsible for optimising the Analytics activities to develop ‘best in class’ Credit Risk analytics service.

Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications  (For the role – not the role holder. Minimum requirements of the role.)

              

KNOWLEDGE

§ Knowledge and experience of the major product suites in RBWM, especially the credit products.

§ Comprehensive knowledge of how statistical models and data driven business rules are applied effectively to credit portfolios.

§ Detailed knowledge of targets, key metrics and drivers/levers for the portfolios against which their work is undertaken.

§ In depth knowledge and experience of building statistical tools and application of analytic methodologies for RBWM businesses.

§ Understanding of the banking process from acquisition to account management to collections or attrition.

§ A thorough understanding of risk and the drivers of capital and funding in the business.

§ Detailed understanding of business policy and processes.

§ A good knowledge of application processing, data warehousing and external credit bureau functioning.

             

 

EXPERIENCE

§ Proven track record of leading and managing projects within a team, delivering results on time and on budget.

·      Experience in the planning and shaping of a number of major analytic projects across RBWM businesses.

·      Use of sophisticated analytic techniques across a number of business functions, supported by ‘best in class’ analytic and data environments

·      Proven track record in working with business and IT to develop and deliver strategic change programs

·      Experience in developing profitable analytic solutions to business / credit problems using credit assessment / management methodologies.

·      Directly relevant experience of working in an analytical role within financial services or an alternative data-driven organisation.

 

 

SKILLS

·      Excellent quantitative analysis skills. Quantitative, numerate or financial degree.

·      Highly developed analytical skills to extract information from data and translate to business language and financial impacts.

·      Proven project management skills, including planning, prioritisation, delegation and delivery of outstanding results.

·      Excellent communication skills and cultural awareness.

·      SQL/SAS programming. Capable of writing complex macros, data extraction queries, producing structured analysis datasets and performing statistical analyses and tests against the data. Ability to manipulate output to business-friendly reports.

·      Ability to present complex statistical concepts and results in a way tailored to the audience in a persuasive and compelling way.

·      A strong decision maker, with the ability to lead project teams.

·      Ability to work with individuals across different geographical sites.
