Programme Manager – Model Risk Management

London/Hybrid

12-month contract

Up to £963.24 p/d Umbrella

We are currently seeking an experienced individual to join this team in the role of Programme Manager.

Role purpose:

Model Risk Management (MRM) at HSBC is structured as a global function, headed up by the Chief Model Risk Officer (CMRO). The MRM function reports directly to the Group Chief Risk and Compliance Officer (GCRCO) ensuring its independence from the model developing and owning areas of the firm.

MRM are the second line of defence (2LoD) for Model Risk and the CMRO is the global Model Risk Steward for the group and is also accountable for the global operation of the MRM function. MRM teams are based in each region, to ensure local subject matter expertise and to guide, review, and challenge. MRM activity is managed on a global basis as many models are used in multiple locations. This enables MRM to operate consistently and efficiently globally, and to take account of additional local regulatory requirements.

MRM is comprised of four key activities:

• Model Risk Governance - Setting the firm's model risk policies and standards, ensuring that model risk is managed within the approved tolerance levels, providing second line assurance on the implementation of policy, and monitoring regulatory developments impacting model risk.

• Model Risk Stewardship - Facilitating responsible development, understanding and use of models and analytics, as well as providing subject matter expertise, advice, guidance, and effective challenge across all entities, regions, global businesses, and functions.

• Independent Model Validation- Independently reviewing and (re)validating models, providing an objective, unbiased and critical opinion on the suitability and soundness of models for their intended use and the accuracy, relevance and completeness of outputs used to inform business decisions.

• Infrastructure - provides specialist technical expertise and are responsible for delivery of infrastructure and reporting capability used across all geographies, business, and functions to support the effective management of model risk.

Role responsibilities:

• Ensure Model Risk initiatives are developed and implemented in line with the overall Project Libra requirements.

• Communicate confidently with senior stakeholders, taking a lead in working groups and other meetings.

• Ensures governance processes and decisions are applied consistently, including engaging the programme sponsor and stakeholders effectively.

• Deliver challenging and complex objectives, deliverables and tasks on time and the required quality.

• Be accountable for the integrity and accuracy of delivered results.

• Prioritise planned projects and tasks, whilst effectively managing and challenging requests for unplanned work.

• Actively manages and co-ordinates the programme plan/roadmap, handling changes as they arise and keeping stakeholders focused on the agreed change outcomes and benefits.

• Identify solutions to emerging risk issues, changing priorities, project completion issues and areas of conflict.

• Draw, formulate and communicate conclusions, recommending further actions, where required.

Experience / Knowledge:

Knowledge:

• Proven understanding of delivery methodologies and best practice techniques.

• Understanding of how change drives benefits for customers and other stakeholders.

• Knowledge of the external environment – regulatory, political, competitors etc in relation to model risk would be an advantage.

Experience:

• Proven ability to work across regions whilst maintaining a global perspective.

• Demonstration of commerciality with strong financial acumen.

• Proven ability to work with senior stakeholders and business sponsors.

• Evidence of ability to make key strategic decisions.

• Delivery of large-scale complex programmes at pace, developing high performing interchanging teams to support delivery at each stage.

• Proven implementation, change management and benefits realisation experience.

• Experience of presenting recommendations to Senior Management.

Qualifications:

• Agile (Scrum, SAFe, Kanban etc.) would be desirable.

• Project Management Professional (PMP) would be desirable.

• Managing Successful Programmes (MSP) would be desirable.
