Employee Communication Manager
£330.00 PAYE / £428.45 Umbrella
Until end of 2022
Birmingham (hybrid working model)

Role Summary:

This role is responsible for managing and executing a best-in-class employee communications programme for HSBC UK’s Commercial Bank.

Whilst the emphasis will be on delivering a strong pipeline of content that tells a compelling growth story about our bank, and creating strategies or plans to deliver priority campaigns, this role will also support issues management and change comms projects.

The role holder will work directly with the Head of Communications for UK CMB, the Senior Employee Communications Manager for UK CMB and business leaders within the Commercial Bank. They will also build strong, collaborative relationships with communications colleagues within both the wider HSBC UK Communications team as well as the global Communications team.

Core Responsibilities:

  • The challenge of this role is to deliver the right balance of communications in the right formats for a busy population, to help ensure colleagues understand and support the strategic direction of HSBC UK and their role in it.
  • The role holder needs to understand the complexities of the audiences, how and when they access communications, and drive engagement levels
  • The role holder needs to exercise considerable judgment to ensure key messages are not lost in vast amounts of superfluous communications.
  • The role holder is expected to build strong relationships with the key senior leadership teams and be seen as a credible expert on communicating with employees. 
  • The role is responsible for creating content across a variety of channels and formats thus in-depth knowledge about the strengths and weaknesses of each medium is required.
  • The role holder should understand the crossover between internal and external communications and consider the impact of messaging in the broader context.
  • Support the delivery of an effective employee communications plan for HSBC UK, working closely with HSBC UK employee communications lead
  • Act as communications business partner and trusted adviser to senior leaders within HSBC UK
  • Develop effective communications strategies or plans to deliver priority campaigns that align with HSBC UK’s strategy
  • Recommend and deliver engaging methods of communicating key messages – including digital, broadcast, and live events - with a focus on opportunities for two-way communication
  • Ensure all communications activities are developed with the strategic priorities in mind
  • Develop excellent knowledge and understanding of HSBC UK and HSBC globally in order to be effective in role
  • Collaborate with media relations colleagues on external messages to mitigate risks
  • Support organisational change and business transformation through strong communications planning and delivery

 

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • A proven track record in developing, managing and implementing employee communication plans
  • Experience working within the digital comms space
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, including the ability to influence and work confidently and effectively with senior leaders
  • A strong team player who can work collaboratively with peers
  • Excellent interpersonal, strategic planning and project management skills
  • Strong knowledge of communication trends and best practice
  • A creative mind, full of ideas and a flair for writing
  • Comfortable using new techniques and systems
  • Broad knowledge of financial services industry and global marketplace
  • Ability to navigate complex organizational structure
  • Ability to manage competing demands of stakeholders
  • Experience in handling crisis communications
