Senior Risk Analyst

Rate: £550.00 P/D or £714.08 Umbrella P/D

Hybrid – 2 days in the office in 8 Canada Square

Duration – 6 months

Role Summary:

HSBC are currently searching for an ambitious, analytical and organised Senior Risk Analyst to join their Wholesale Credit and Market Risk function. Role Purpose:

The job holder will be a key role within the wholesale credit and market risk function who shall be required to monitor, evaluate and manage market and counterparty risk impacting across the HSBC Group. It is responsible for establishing the global risk management framework for Traded Risk, and play a key role in ensuring that the Bank is compliant with current and future regulatory requirements relating to Traded Risks and their capitalisation. As outlined in the Enterprise Risk Management Framework, Traded Risk’s role as risk and control owners forms part of the First Line of Defence. Their role as risk stewards forms part of the Second Line of Defence.

Key Responsible

  • Co-ordinates and conducts predominantly quantitative analysis, and performs investigations and root cause-analysis
  • Supports Risk Managers with the generation, calibration, and maintenance of risk measurement techniques and models
  • Responsible for the application of internal HSBC Policies relating to Traded Risk and supports the maintenance of the Risk Framework
  • Performs timely risk limit monitoring and provides guidance on potential breaches, with appropriate escalation
  • Provides analysis to support and inform risk decisions on trades, risk exposures and new products
  • Identifies and escalates issues to Risk Management through appropriate and targeted review and validation of risk data, controls and reporting
  • Actively participates with regulatory exercises to support regulatory engagement
  • Responsible for production of ad hoc and bespoke risk reporting, and risk-related presentation packs (and MI) for senior management
  • Works closely with Global Transformation to optimise risk measurement and analysis capability through the introduction of new technologies
  • Identifies improvements to infrastructure, including streamlining, standardising and globalising processes and reporting
  • Works closely with data providers to define data controls and the approach to assurance testing these controls
  • Interacts regularly with Global Markets Middle Office, providing an escalation point, and acts as a conduit to Risk Managers

Knowledge and Experience:

Essential

  • University graduate in finance, computer science or any other quantitative related degrees
  • Good knowledge of financial markets, trading business, market risk measures
  • Understanding of key risk factors for products, risk sensitivities and how they are measured
  • Good knowledge of risk calculations, VaR Backtesting, IRC, Volcker, RWA reporting and regulatory framework
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and software development tools (VBA, Python, etc)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Good analytical and problem solving skills
  • Genuine interest in financial products within Traded Risk
  • Strong eagerness to learn and grow along with the capacity to work collaboratively as a team

Desirable

  • CFA or FRM qualification
  • Experience in related banking area, e.g. Product Control, Front Office
  • Experience in dealing with many stakeholders and building relationships
  • Experience with analytical reporting, e.g. explanation of a transformation by decomposition
  • Up to date with current market/economic issues and an understanding of the changing regulatory landscape
  • Excellent presentation skills to brief senior management on topics and summarise key information
  • Good business analysis skills
