Job Title: Senior Capital Manager  

Location: London Hybrid 2 – 3 days in office

Contract length: 6 months

Rate: £550 PAYE

Role Purpose

Our client HSBC are currently seeking a Senior Capital Manager to join their Capital Management,  Treasury team. Undertaking a hybrid working role, this contract will be for 6 months.

Role Purpose

  • Management and delivery of the HBEU FRP capital, RWA and leverage planning process
  • Involvement in the delivery of the PRA internal stress testing process for capital and leverage for HBEU
  • To establish strong and collaborative working relationships with Global/ Regional Businesses, understanding their capital requirements and allocation and performance targets
  • Provision of key capital information to Executive Committees, for example, HBEU Asset, Liability and Capital Committee
  • To build a strong working relationship with both Stress Testing teams and HBEU Financial Planning and Analysis teams, ensuring that capital planning is an integrated part of the process

Key knowledge and experience

  • Strong Banking background
  • Capital regulation experience 
  • Experience with stress testing, reviewing, and preparing MI
  • Looking at risk operations and reporting data to relevant people
  • Must be a self-starter and able to hit the ground running
  • 4-5 yrs. capital management experience
  • Excel Expert able to manipulate large data sets
  • Experience with looking at capital forecasting for European subsidiary’s
  • Experience with all aspect’s governance  
  • Stakeholder management off all level experience
  • Able to network and collaborate
  • Understands all aspect of capital forecasting and planning 
  • Experience with the treasury

Reporting

  • Management and delivery of the HBEU FRP capital, RWA and leverage planning process
  • Involvement in the delivery of the PRA and internal stress testing process for capital and leverage for HBEU
  • Delivery of capital focused returns and disclosures

Customers / Stakeholders

  • Close engagement with Regional Businesses to understand their capital needs and performance
  • ALCO/ Board/ Risk Committee: Assistance with the preparation of regular committee reporting papers

Leadership & Teamwork

  • Provide ad-hoc support to the HBEU Treasury team on other on-going projects
  • Builds a network and develops strong working relationships with HSBC staff at all levels and across regions.

Operational Effectiveness & Control

  • Continually reassess the operational risks associated with the role and adhere to internal controls, procedures, and policies
  • Supports, encourages, and participates in a programme of continuous improvement and cost control/reduction within Group
  • Considers HSBC’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint

Major Challenges

  • The diverse responsibilities of the job and the number of jurisdictions in which HSBC operates require the jobholder to be highly efficient, and deal with both highly confidential and commercially sensitive information with discretion
  • The jobholder must have strong financial analysis skills, ability to work to tight deadlines and maintain a high level of accuracy and ability to communicate complex ideas both written and verbally at all levels
  • The jobholder must be able to think and act independently often within tight timeframes, formulating sound advice or actions which have a clear direction and are commercially and operationally acceptable.
    The holder needs to be:
    • Proactive, dynamic and a self-starter
    • Able to prioritise and work under pressure

Role Dimensions

  • The jobholder’s responsibilities cover the provision of the FRP and stress testing capital plan and leverage ratio for HBEU.

Role Context

  • The role holder is required to work with a level of autonomy, sometimes dealing with issues where judgment is required, and must be fully aware of his/her responsibilities surrounding the highly restricted nature of the everyday data being handled
  • The role operates within the broader HBEU ALCM function, with responsibility for capital, leverage, funding, liquidity, and interest rate risk in the banking book.

Management of Risk

  • The jobholder will ensure that reported numbers are accurate and complete, since these may be used as the basis for management decision taking
  • Utmost discretion in dealing with highly restricted matters as the role holder will have access and exposure to a range of commercially sensitive information

Observation of Internal Controls

  • The jobholder will also adhere to and be able to demonstrate adherence to internal controls. This will be achieved by adherence to all relevant procedures, keeping appropriate records and, where appropriate, by the timely implementation of internal and external audit points, including issues raised by external regulators.
    The jobholder will implement the Group compliance policy by containing compliance risk in liaison with Global Head of Compliance, Global Compliance Officer, Area Compliance Officer or Local Compliance Officer. The term ‘compliance’ embraces all relevant financial services laws, rules and codes with which the business has to comply
  • This will be achieved by adhering to all relevant processes/procedures and by liaising with Compliance department about new business initiatives at the earliest opportunity. Also and when applicable, by ensuring adequate resources are in place and training is provided, fostering a compliance culture and optimising relations with regulators

Experience, Skills and Qualifications

Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications

  • Qualified ACA / Management Accountant / MBA / ACT / CFA with experience in finance, treasury, corporate finance, and banking.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with executives as well as internal and external senior management.
  • A good knowledge of the HSBC Group and its operations and structure.
  • Strong ability to prioritise.
  • Lateral thinking/problem solving.
  • Ability to work on own initiative prioritising tasks and meeting deadlines to achieve a high standard of work.
