Business Consultant (“Implementation Manager Spec) – Consulting Services

Consulting Services sits at the Centre of HSBC’s growth, digital and customer agenda. Our consultants work in many roles to deal with the HSBC’s toughest strategic challenges for- and across- the global Executive Committee to support all divisions and functions of the bank and ensure better outcomes for our customers and shareholders.

We seek consultants to lead projects or work streams of larger projects, who can be trusted by our C-suite to design and deliver solutions that lay the foundation for HSBC’s future

We are enlisted by the Executive Committee to resolve HSBC’s most complex, future-looking, strategic challenges. Previous projects have included creating the business strategy for different business areas within WPB, building a new proposition or redefining a proposition for the customers, a new onboarding journey for customers globally, and defining, designing and mobilizing the operating model within channels, and identifying operational efficiencies to achieve annual budget targets.

For the scope of this project you would be working as part of the WPB customer centricity programme, a key priority for the bank, composed of a cross-functional / global team across Customer, Design, Value streams, and Consulting services.

 

What you will be doing

  • Take ownership and drive the implementation of market execution plans
  • Coordinate the development and implementation of core Customer Experience (CX) capabilities (incl. but not limited to requirement gathering, analysis, rationalisation, prioritisation, trans-creation, implementation and embedding) (based on the 8 fix/build workstream journeys identified)
  • Work as market change lead for the implementation markets (starting with HK, HASE, SG, UAE) and scaling to other markets as the initiative progresses
  • Embedding Target Operating Model capabilities, new CX measurements, framework and culture into each market
  • Action support or acting as the product owner as / when needed

 

Key skills required

  • Problem solving and critical thinking: Identify and analyse complex problems conducting root cause analysis. Bring structure to make problems easier to solve and recommend long term solutions. Evaluate costs, benefits and obstacles of potential solutions. Lead and influence a wider team promoting systematic thinking and creativity.
  • Business analysis and design: Undertake a gap analysis and translate this into a flexible roadmap for implementation. Lead the development of operating models to ensure they are usable and appropriate to the needs of the stakeholder. Your input is actively sought working collaboratively with stakeholders, including challenging business intent.
  • Change portfolio definition and planning: Define programme/portfolio strategy and influence stakeholders to agree on time and resources to deliver the scope. Structure the delivery of projects and work streams including prioritisation of tasks, deliverables and resources. Oversee and manage the delivery of large scale project plans demonstrate flexibility by accommodating changes (for example to scope, resources) and quickly resolve issues.
  • Influencing and challenging stakeholders: Create and deliver impactful messages to senior stakeholders in a way that can influence them and assert your credibility. Explain complex information in clear and concise messages. Communicate “bad news” and resolve conflict, promoting effective communication.
  • Deliver at pace: Take end to end ownership for the delivery of project deliverables, including monitoring engagement progress to ensure alignment with the desired outcomes. Anticipate any potential risks and issues and take action to mitigate these. Support the team where required and challenge the team to accelerate delivery.
  • Drive commercial innovation: Identify and evaluate the potential and actual financial improvement from projects, and assess business development opportunities that could lead to greater profit. Explore the external marketplace and learnings from elsewhere in HSBC to identify commercial opportunities.
  • Innovation and idea management: Take the initiative to research market innovations, internal developments and ideas from other teams. Experiment with innovative solutions, test their effectiveness and assess their impact and value. Use this to develop and introduce new methods and approaches, gaining buy in from senior leadership. Educate and encourage the team to generate new ideas.

 

To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:

  • Experience of working on consulting or related initiatives in Financial Services or other large complex organisations on any of the following: Business strategy (revenue growth, market entry, market sizing), Customer segmentation, Distribution strategy, Product & proposition design, Business and financial modelling, Commercial due diligence, Cost reduction, Operating model design, Digitisation of processes, Change initiation etc.
  • Proven strong analytical and quantitative skills with the ability to structure and solve problems based on facts/data including strategic analysis/interpretation, options analysis, prioritization of ideas/initiative, and develop global point of view on the applications of new technologies, changes in micro and macro environment and other topics relevant for clients
  • Experience working collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment and optimally with people at all levels in an organization also under pressure incl. extensive experience in senior stakeholder management across large and complex projects
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas optimally in a proficient English, both verbally and in writing, incl. identification and articulation of the targeted benefits for a change intervention, and ability to maintain and navigate the organization using formal / informal networking skills
