Job title - Procurement Data & Analytics Lead

Location – London

Rate – PAYE £850 / Umbrella £1,103.58 per day

Start date – ASAP

Contract – 6 months


Our client HSBC are currently seeking a Procurement Data and Analytics Lead to join their Business Intelligence and Insights team, undertaking a hybrid working role, this contract will be for 6 – 24 months.

 

Role Context

The Deputy Chief Operating Officer (DCOO) function is part of the wider Digital Business Services (DBS) Organisation led by HSBC’s COO. There are four primary DCOO services:

1)     Strategic Procurement Services (SPS) – strengthening commercial relationships with key suppliers and automating the supply chain lifecycle, with the outcome of improving long-term partnerships and the end-to-end supplier life-cycle.

2)     Corporate Services (CS) – delivering a great employee and workplace experience with a focus on the future of work, estate management, Business Continuity and resolution planning

3)     Transformation Services (TS) – creating value for the customer and the business by accelerating and delivering change. Also includes BI&I team

4)     ServCo - 19 operational ServCo legal entities and 2 branches globally delivering a service catalogue made-up of c.350 functional services, from management of the entire DBS technology landscape to operational business

Principal Responsibilities

·      Act as a Product Owner for the Strategic Procurement Services (SPS) BI&I product, actively own the BAU service delivery & strategic change roadmap; proactively identify ways to enhance the offering to exceed stakeholder expectations and unlock the value of data through visualisations, insights, self-service analytics and high-quality reusable data assets

·      Act as a ‘trusted advisor’ to SPS senior management, establishing and nurturing strong partnerships with the SPS Exco & Exco+1 to identify new opportunities and demand (e.g. ESG analytics) and also drive collaboration with other HSBC analytics teams

·      Challenge conventional thinking, provide outside-in perspectives & lead ongoing research and application of the latest analytics technologies, to deliver cutting edge BI solutions

·      Engaging with SPS & external stakeholders, mobilising and managing ideation, design & delivery across Analytics & BI use cases (interactive and intuitive dashboards / tools, scenario models, trending and forecasting), followed by transitioning to BAU & benefit tracking

·      Support the BI&I Head in the definition, implementation and on-going development of the BI&I Data operating model

·      Manage the running and deliverables of the SPS BI&I team (circa 10 FTE), ensuring system and service availability within agreed SLAs. Responsible for the quality of output, ensuring solutions are future proofed and in line with overall HSBC strategies

·      Manage the SPS BI&I backlog, regular refreshes and prioritization plus reporting on progress and ensuring deadlines are met

·      Own the delivery of data solutions end to end, from experiment and design, through to Development, testing and implementation ensuring alignment to Agile practices and ceremonies, as well as adherence to the firm’s data governance & change delivery standards

·      Act as a liaison between Business and Functional areas and technology to ensure that data related business requirements for deliverables are clearly defined, communicated and well understood and that the development of these are planned and prioritized accordingly

·      Responsible for leading project demos, playbacks, UAT and user feedback sessions

·      Responsible for ensuring that there is robust documentation on assigned BI&I deliverables/projects & ensures timely and appropriate management of problems with escalations as needed

·      Support SPS change through representation on Design and Change authorities

·      Provide technical input and governance of all change deliverables ensuring quality of technical design and development, testing standards are adhered to and release and change control are managed and are auditable

·      Work alongside BI&I Data Quality lead to support the development / maintenance of SPS data governance framework, with a focus on improvement of DQ standards, principles/policies, governance metrics, delivery of data dictionaries, data models and appropriate processes for resolution of errors

·      Define indicators of performance and quality metrics and ensure compliance with data related policies, standards, roles and responsibilities, and adoption requirements

·      Manage the evolution of standard data models and master data management

·      Ensure that the Service desk function manages service requests and are dealt with within agreed SLAs

·      Advanced understanding of SPS domain, functional goals, and the required technical expertise

·      Manages and quality assures the design, development and execution of (complex) data management deliverables and requests according to business requirements

·      Supports the delivery and implementation of Global data management processes to provide fit for purpose MI / insights provision

·      Drives the adoption of Tableau / Qliksense to users internal and external to SPS, driving self service and single source of the truth functionality

·      Provides actionable analytical solutions for business problems. Leverages external / internal information while providing business solutions

·      Supports innovative analytical thinking & solutions that results into improved business performance

·      Accountability for the performance of all team activities and focuses on continuous improvement of process and performance of the team from a productivity, service, quality, training and effectiveness perspective


Customer / Stakeholders:


·      Ensure Data Quality frameworks are communicated to Senior Management, ensuring buy in towards improved data quality and MI/BI provision.

·      Communicate team strategy, releases and on-going work packages through various communication channels

·      Ensure all deliverables meet Business requirements and the delivery of high quality analytical solutions for the existing clients / engagements.

·      Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain working relationships.

·      Ability to analyze complex data, interpret operational & stakeholder needs and provide feasible analysis and business insights to stakeholders

·      Partner with functional business leaders in developing analytical strategies / decision making aids to achieve a higher value.

·      Translate key analytical solutions as generic and re-deployable across regions / countries

·      Ensure that all risks/issues identified get communicated to required stakeholder in a timely manner and action come up with plans for remediation

Knowledge, Experience & Qualifications

 

Essential:

·      A minimum of 7-10 years’ experience delivering data / analytics solutions end to end (use Case ideation, experimentation, design, delivery, testing & implementation) using Agile with clearly demonstrable business outcomes

·      Rigorous analytics skills, ability to solve advanced problems with Design Thinking and deal with a variety of options in complex situations

·      Deep knowledge of the data management and analytics delivery life cycle including demonstrable knowledge, experience & credibility across advanced analytics / Data Science (Machine Learning, NLP), data modelling etc..

·      Proven experience in the capacity of a Product Owner with ability to build and maintain advisory relationship with senior managers, negotiate and challenge conventional thinking

·      Proven demonstration of resilience and tenacity in achieving required outcomes, taking ownership and accountability to drive a task to the ultimate resolution

·      Experience of working with on premise and / or cloud data technologies with expertise in SQL, Google Cloud BigQuery

·      Deep experience and evidence of design, development and execution of complex data management deliverables and requests according to business requirements (data architecture, ETL processes, data mining & modelling etc..)

·      Experience/ expertise with one or more visualization technologies, Qlik or Tableau preferable

·      Deep knowledge of the governance and management of data, data quality and appropriate tooling for the formal documentation of artefacts (data structures & models, data dictionaries, Collibra etc..)

·      Experience in managing teams with diverse skillsets and disciplines to deliver exceptional customer service and value

·      Ability to work in fast-paced environment with proven ability to handle multiple outputs at one time

·      Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal and comfortable working with senior management; ability to articulate data concepts, problem statements and solutions to non stakeholders

·      Capable of developing subject matter expertise in complex areas and demonstrating a resourceful, creative and inquisitive approach to highly complex tasks

·      Experience operating in a large, global matrix organisation and a highly regulated environment preferable (including data privacy experience)

·      Demonstrate a passion for research and data, inspiring the same within the team; be proactive, take initiative and work independently

 

 

Desirable:

·      Strong working knowledge of Procurement and associated subject areas such as Source to Contract, Accounts Payable & Third Party Management in a data, consulting or operational capacity

  • Experience in Python and Data Science concepts (e.g. Probability, Statistics, Linear Algorithms, Non-linear algorithms, Unsupervised Learning, Data Matching, NLP)
  • Strong commercial acumen with an appreciation of how data can be relevant to support key business decisions around customer experience, cost, efficiency & revenue
  • Industry / innovation knowledge on technology and tools in the BI / Analytics / Data domain including Cloud providers

·      Strong knowledge of HSBC’s data landscape, with a strategic view of the tools available and in use
