Role Purpose/Responsibilities:
The Corporate Services (CS) organisation comprises a set of outcome focused service pillars including Workspaces, Operations, Protective Security, Business Continuity & Incident Management and Strategy. CS reports into Deputy COO (DCOO).
The Business Manager reports to and will directly support the Chief of Staff to CS in the execution of the following duties:
· Drive the strategic agenda, set by the Chief of Staff – Corporate Services, through adoption of quantitative and qualitative measures that are to be endorsed and tracked at GEC
· Take ownership of one or more of the four key strategic pillars in the execution of the strategic initiatives transformation initiatives including the function’s workforce strategy, architecture and target operating model design more generally (e.g. real estate, location strategy)
· This work feeds directly into the bank’s wider cost levers work savings $2bn for the bank
· Input into the creation of a new Chief of Staff capability, that will manage the function and support the Global Head of Corporate Services
· As part of that, the role holder will also drive the definition of the investment case for achieving its commitment and reaching its financial targets
· Further to that, the role holder will define and solve business problems as well as find opportunities for additional transformational initiatives that supports the business in achieving its 2027 vision
The Senior Strategy Manager is responsible for:
· Driving the execution of business initiatives and change activities in support of the CS strategy, which may include organisational design, technology, people / culture initiatives, and compliance and regulatory requirements
· Providing business management support including headcount, setting monthly cadence for planning, forecasts and reporting to DCOO
· Providing operational management support for the execution of the DCOO strategy and liaison between the DCOO senior leadership team, multi departmental functions and key stakeholders globally
· Leveraging the wider DCOO organisation, including Transformation Services, Corporate Governance, Communications & Employee Engagement and Business Intelligence & Insights services to support the execution of their responsibilities
Key Accountabilities
· Operating Model
o Define, promote and implement the workforce strategy, including location and organisational structures
o Establishing the technology and business strategy, including a review of existing processes and automation / digital opportunities
· Insights and opportunities
o Expand the use of market research and (external and internal) benchmarking to build insights and identify opportunities
· General
o Define and Maintain Corporate Services’ vision and strategy in line with the Group
o Promote and Communicate CS’ strategy internally and externally to mobilise and increase senior stakeholder engagement
o Provide continuous and periodic updates on CS strategy (e.g. via GEC updates)
o Review and evaluate the investment strategy / transformation case, with key milestones, against the desired end state
o Organise roadshows and engage in internal and external events
o Create an intelligence unit to monitor the industry and drive market insights into strategic business decisions
o Design and manage target operating models – vertically for business services and/or horizontally for cross-functional teams
o Drive strategic structural projects to completion
Customers / Stakeholders
External Stakeholders:
· Provide analysis and support to external parties (e.g. regulators) as needed – either in response to queries/audits or briefing notes
Internal Stakeholders:
· Engage with stakeholders across DCOO to support delivery of DCOO objectives, ensure all regulatory and legal commitments are met and provide proactive issue management
· Develop strong relationships with Global Businesses, Group Functions and Digital Business Services executive team to be able to support the delivery of the DCOO strategy
Leadership & Teamwork
· Lead by example, demonstrate core behaviour and values including professionalism, teamwork, focus, drive and determination
· Ensure effective and open communication across DCOO service pillars
· Cultivate an environment that supports diversity and reflects the HSBC brand
· Contribute to the implementation of the DCOO strategy
· Leverage services provided by DCOO service pillars to effectively deliver responsibilities
Operational Effectiveness & Control
· Ensure appropriate governance is implemented along with robust documentation and supporting management controls
· Provide documentation support for the governance meetings attended by Head of CS
· Reassess continually the operational risks associated with the role and inherent in the business, taking account of changing economic or market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, operating procedures and practices, management restructurings, and the impact of new technology and services
· Adhere to all relevant procedures, keeping appropriate records and, where appropriate, by the timely implementation of internal and external audit points, including issues raised by external regulators

· The role requires a comprehensive understanding of several value units / products / regions / legal entities, alongside an advanced understanding of the industry and the relative positioning of the HSBC's products and services

Skills/ Experience
· Experienced financial services / management consultant with strategy experience or similar
· Graduate level education, preferably a Master in Finance / Banking / Economics or similar
· Strong financial and financial modelling skills
· Excellent understanding or ability to quickly learn HSBC structures, processes and objectives across the Group
· Outstanding knowledge of banking operations structure and dynamic
· Strong interpersonal skills and possess the ability to develop relationships, collaborate with and influence stakeholders from all levels in the organisation and across geographies and cultures
· Assertive with the ability to work with others to ensure delivery within the required timelines
· Analytical reasoning and excellent problem solving ability in complex ambiguous situations
· Strong MS Office Skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
· MUST HAVE STRONG ORGANISATIONAL DESIGN EXPERIENCE
