Business Analyst

Programme Overview:

Global Recovery and Resolution Planning (RRP) is a function of Global Treasury and is led by the Head of Group Recovery and Resolution Planning. The team is the custodian of the Group Recovery and Resolution Strategy, which includes the management of HSBC’s capabilities to recover in a severe financial stress and, if unsuccessful, its ability to be resolved and restructured in an orderly way.

The team is structured to align roles to the following activities:

        i.         RRP Governance and Strategy (e.g. Board/regulatory engagement, RRP training, RRP standards, RRP testing)

       ii.         Restructuring and Management Actions (e.g. actions and associated recovery capacity)

      iii.         RRP Management and Delivery (e.g. Group Recovery Plan and RAF self-assessment)

 

The MREL workstream (led by Markets Treasury) operates within the RRP programme to support each of these activities. The workstream’s current objective is to deliver remediation and enhancement activity in response to any gaps identified against BoE requirements. This includes ensuring that HSBC is able to maintain in BAU comprehensive capabilities to implement a bail-in over the resolution weekend, as instructed by the BoE.

 

Role Description:

The Business Analyst will report to the Delivery Lead of the MREL Database sub-workstream to plan, coordinate and manage the delivery of the MREL Database solution. The role holder will be expected to liaise with multiple teams across Finance IT and the Markets Treasury function to:

a)        Support the deployment of the existing MREL Database solution to in-scope Legal Entities; and

b)       Support the delivery of defect fixes, changes and enhancements to ensure that the solution is fit for purpose and meets business requirements.

Key responsibilities include:

·       Working with all relevant business and IT functions to define the target end state for MREL Database capabilities, create a roadmap that prioritises initiatives to deliver new capabilities, and manage the timely delivery of defect fixes, changes and enhancements in line with requirements;

·       Collaborating with business stakeholders to define and document detailed business requirements and acceptance criteria, and manage their collation in a Requirement Traceability Matrix;

·       Developing and retaining a detailed understanding of these requirements in order to enable appropriate support and guidance to be provided to IT stakeholders;

·       Facilitating the solution design process with business stakeholders, designers and developers to ensure that it is well-understood, appropriately documented and delivers on prioritised requirements – ultimately securing business approval;

·       Contributing to the production of key IT deliverables, including functional/technical specifications, workflows and wireframes;

·       Managing the upload of data into the MREL Database and validating against the inputs provided in order to ensure accuracy and consistency;

·       Validating defects when they are raised, confirming their business priority in relation to the backlog and supporting the development team and business stakeholders with reaching agreement on appropriate resolution options;

·       Managing the change control process, ensuring that CRs are raised and tracked from initial impact assessment and sizing through to prioritisation, planning and approval;

·       Supporting the Delivery Lead by engaging with relevant business and IT functions to track and manage the delivery of project activity, identifying challenges and recommending mitigation approaches;

·       Contributing to post-implementation reviews, assessing performance/efficiency, making recommendations and coordinating their implementation; and

·       Demonstrating and applying strong business domain knowledge.

Required knowledge and experience:

·       Experience in a team management and/or advisory role

·       Experience working on major projects as part of a cross-functional team

·       Strong experience working across the system development lifecycle – including testing and defect remediation

·       An understanding of Release procedures (using Agile delivery methodology)

·       Experience/knowledge of ETLs

·       Data analysis skills (Qliksense, SQL, Excel, reporting tools) [preferred]

·       Understanding of Treasury concepts applicable to financial institutions [preferred]

·       Some experience working on regulatory programmes [preferred]

·       An effective and assured communicator, able to break down ‘technical’ language for non-technical stakeholders

·       Strong analytical skills, able to manipulate data and present analysis for consumption by senior management

·       Well-organised, diligent and responsive to ad hoc requests and changes in workflow
