Role Description
In this role you will provide expert guidance and leadership on the development of data strategy, data-based products, data governance and quality assurance. You will work with the chief data architect, data domain architect, technical architects and wider stakeholder group to help create and deliver a world class data as a service offering to the department through the development of a modern data warehouse and big data lake. You will work with other government departments to set standard ways of working informing a cross government data strategy. As a lead architect you will: • Drive the Data & Analytics data and technical strategies.
• Engage with Enterprise Architecture and Security to ensure the Data Strategy is incorporated safely into system architectures.
• Drive the development of new and improved Data & Analytics products and services. • Act as senior consultant to Operations, collaboratively identifying opportunities to streamline business activity through use of data.
General Responsibilities
You will:
• Be responsible for assuring Data integrity and Data security, ensuring that the data assets are supported by a resistant and secure data architecture that aids government departments and external partners in achieving strategic goals
• Be responsible for providing technical guidance and leadership for data management, data quality and the business reporting function including data warehouse.
• Define and advise on the architecture approach for DWP departmental projects and programmes working towards the desired architectural model.
• Provide leadership for strategic initiatives, including the development of plans for data warehouse, data quality, data integration and business intelligence projects and programmes
• Create and maintain a process for managing data quality across the organization, in particular addressing information feeds to enterprise
• Influence the wider DWP technology stakeholders with regard to the development of data strategies
• Be responsible for building strong links across other government departments to influence best practice and share insights
Essential Skills
You should have:
• Experience of working at a senior level in an Enterprise Data Warehouse team in a large complex organisation, such as a bank or financial services with proven work experience in data architecture and data modelling including reverse engineering models from data.
• Expert level knowledge of industry best practices for database development and administration of relational and multi-dimensional database design • Proven analytical skills to properly evaluate and interpret cross-functional data standardisation requirements.
• Proven expertise and skills with business process and data flow modelling with a demonstrable track record of resolving complex issues relating to enterprise-wide data architecture within a challenging, dynamic delivery landscape.
• Expert level knowledge of DW/BI stack and metadata management and at least three of Oracle, CA ERwin, SAS, Business Objects & Informatica, Unix Shell programming, SQL
• Strong background in development & delivery lifecycle methodology
Ideally you will also have:
• Awareness of new data visualisation/reporting tools eg. Tableau, Pentaho
• Understanding of new open source relational and non-relational technology e.g. Hbase/Hadoop, Hive, Postgres, MongoDB & APIs
