Job Description:


Requirements:

1) Expert practical experience in molecular biology techniques of PCR, cloning and expression of antibodies.

a) Single B-cell PCR and V region cloning experience would be an advantage

b) Experience with antibody expression using mammalian expression systems would be an advantage

2) Able to design and execute new methods and protocols related to area of expertise with minimal supervision.

a) Able to identify and troubleshoots problems in the execution of experiments

b) Clearly interprets and communicates experimental results to their supervisor

c) Designs next logical step of experiments based on interpretation of results

3) Experience with liquid handling automation is required

a) Use of liquid handlers such as Felix, Biomek Fx, Tecan

b) Experience with programming methods for Felix liquid handler would be an advantage

4) Excellent record keeping skills

5) Good written and verbal communication skills

6) Experience with electronic lab note books and Microsoft Office applications

7) Demonstrable ability to work in multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have earned a PhD in a field such as molecular biology, microbiology, immunology or from a cross-disciplinary program that included one of these areas of study.

The Biopharm Molecular Discovery (BPMD) Unit is at the heart of GSKs ambition to deliver antibody and other biopharmaceutical medicines. The BPMD Unit has the remit to design and optimize biopharmaceuticals from Target to Candidate Molecule exploiting cutting edge technology and delivering diverse lead panels from which high quality candidates can be selected and seamlessly transferred to Biopharmaceutical Product Development and Supply.

Within the BMPD Unit, the Antibody Selections group (AS) has responsibility for identifying high quality antibody hits and leads from library and in vivo technologies, delivering an important contribution to GSKs Biopharm pipeline. The Antibody Selections group also has accountability for developing new antibody discovery technologies to enable increasingly diverse hit panels and generation of candidates against challenging targets.
