Indirect Tax Process Improvement Expert

GSK House, Brentford

Initial 6 Month Contract

Pay: up to £650 per day

The Indirect and Operational Tax team is responsible for improving global processes relating to Tax, Transfer Pricing & Statutory Accounts. This role is required to support the overall global transformation of Indirect Tax aligned with enterprise and global tax strategy, aligned with the new Tax & Stats TOM. This role will involve global travel for 30-40% of the time.

Job Purpose

To Identify and lead Indirect Tax & other operational tax transformation, technology and process improvement projects, acting as an Indirect Tax process SME and project manager.


Key Responsibilities

  • Leading on all project activities on a wide range of Indirect Tax projects, from engagement and assessment, project planning, design, implementation, testing, training and success measurement.
  • Preparation and presentation of project deliverables, such as business or system requirements, stakeholder briefing packs, test scripts, tax guidance and reports.
  • Leading project management activities such as preparing project plans, monitoring activities and communicating progress via steering groups.
  • Preparation and leading delivery of training in relation to technology and process, for Tax and other groups such as P2P which have a direct impact on Tax compliance
  • Information gathering and analysis (data, SOPs, process maps)
  • Supporting with proposals and business cases for new projects
  • Preparing system and process design documentation
  • Taking the role of SPOC for various Indirect & Operational taxes stakeholder groups and governance boards as required

Ideal Candidate

Qualified in ACA, ACCA, ATT, CTA or similar with 2/3+ years working in a similar capacity

Application of Knowledge

Candidate will require the use of tax and/or accounting knowledge to:

  • Plan & propose actions required by GSK in order to meet project objectives within the constraints it has as a business, compared against obligations under Tax law
  • Understand at a deep level the Tax compliance processes which are undertaken within GSK
  • Understand current GSK IT tax design / and develop new IT capabilities in the Indirect & Operational Taxes arena

Candidate will require general business knowledge to:

  • Understand GSK’s trading models, legal structure, department structure and business processes
  • Appreciate GSK’s overarching business objectives and set project goals aligned to those objectives
  • Ensure effective communication at the right levels to the right teams

Problem Solving & Innovation

Role requires the ability to create, design and implement effective solutions to complex problems, particularly in the Tax process and Tax system areas.

The individual will be expected to create their own solutions and plans and after appropriate consultation execute them.

It is critical that the solutions are robust, and details have not been overlooked, as errors in design and implantation can and will lead to Tax risk, audits and penalties.


Interaction

Candidate will be attending many meetings, primarily in the course of leading their own projects and supporting others. These will require the candidate to interact and communicate effectively with individuals typically at the Manager and in some cases Director level.

These interactions will be across multiple disciplines, and will require the ability to explain Tax concepts clearly and concisely, particularly to those groups which will have little knowledge of those issues.
