Technical Engineer - Mechanical

Basic Qualifications:

• Relevant operational mechanical engineering experience, ideally building services background.

• Engineering degree.

• Experience in a highly regulated industry, competence in current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) would be desirable.

GSK’s Worldwide Real Estate and Facilities (WREF) deliver the right space in the right location, and at the right cost, with industry competitive and customer focused services. The organisation oversees and operates circa 16 million square feet of space with a population of over 28,000 GSK and other staff, including all pharmaceutical and consumer health R&D laboratories and pilot plants, as well as commercial office accommodation for all GSK business units. This portfolio of property currently requires an annual spend of more than £450m in operating costs and £200m in capital investment.

Due to sustained long-term investment at many of GSK’s sites we are looking for a dynamic and driven Technical Engineer to focus on the provision of Mechanical Engineering support to the WREF organization. This position reports directly to the Ware R&D site’s WREF Site Operations Director. You will be supporting the Facilities Services and Capital Projects programme management teams with the ultimate aim of supporting consistent delivery of facilities and services. You will work to ensure that delivery is aligned to local needs and priorities (of the business), whilst ensure that cost, quality and compliance metrics are achieved by key contract partners. Your role will include the development and improvement of processes that support the operational delivery model and interfaces with other GSK functions, service partners and other 3rd party providers. You will also be supporting regional compliance (to external licensing and statutory requirements) for engineering services provided by WREF.

Important elements of your role include improving site compliance against the GSK Global Engineering Standards. As required you will lead investigations and mitigation plans at site-level for service failures and will be involved in audit findings, dispute resolution and process improvements. As a professional engineer you will support compliance to Quality and Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) requirements and ensure that Engineering is a safe place to work and ‘inspection ready’ at all times.

Your engineering support will also extend to, steam boiler pressure systems, hazardous utility systems, cooling towers & domestic water systems, as well as construction and demolition (as required) works.

About You:

This role would suit a driven and motivated individual who has strong experience of working in a complex GMP environment / building services environment. You will be a qualified engineer, with a strong track-record of delivering operational management. Strong people- management skills and experience, as well as a proven ability to drive performance, are considered essential. It is imperative in this role that you demonstrate an ability to drive common-objective thinking, with a complete focus on providing solutions. You will need to be persuasive, have a strong continuous improvement mindset, and have proven experience of dealing with diverse internal and external stakeholder groups. Ideally you will have worked in a highly regulated-industry (experience of the provision of complex facilities support services to a large office or pharmaceutical facility would be highly advantageous).
