Senior Finance Analyst

GSK House, Brentford

10 Month Contract

Pay: up to £300 per day


ROLE:

The Global Alliances and Licensing team manage the Royalty clauses of circa 200 in and out Licensing agreements.

The role requires a high level of analytical and technical skills to interpret agreements and ensure that terms are being applied correctly to royalty payments/receipts, as well as ensuring GSK shares appropriate contractual information with the 3rd party. In cases of uncertainty, this may involve reverting to Legal for clarification, therefore confidence and effective communication skills are necessary.

The role also requires strong analytical skills to identify and explain significant variances and trends in royalties’ income and expenses. In preparing the monthly and quarterly reconciliations and payments, the team must work closely, under tight time constraints with Corporate and in country finance staff and it is imperative for the Senior Analyst to manage inputs from the other Licensing analysts.

Some processes within the team are not automated or standardised which results in a number of complex reporting models, which are designed, built, owned and maintained by the team. A high degree of control and accuracy must be ensured whilst actively pursuing process improvements to automate the processes.

Understanding of GSK accounting policies and terms and conditions of the agreements as they should be applied at an Operating Unit/Legal Entity level, including the treatment of any intercompany transactions.

The Senior Finance Analyst’s key responsibilities are to:

  • Coordinate and consolidate month end and quarter end Licensing finance activities including:

  1. Ensuring accurate royalty accruals
  2. Balance sheet reconciliations for licensing related accounts
  3. Quarterly worldwide intangibles report
  4. Meaningful variance analysis on significant movements.

  • Assist with the consolidation, analysis and internal reporting of Royalties.
  • Manage own portfolio of agreements e.g. accruals, payments and respond to any ad-hoc queries.
  • Responsible for compliance of contractual financial reporting to 3rd parties.
  • Coordinate and finalise the quarterly settlements with the third party.
  • Assist with and review Licensing team’s calculation of external royalty payments.
  • Monitor and control royalties’ receivables, with input from the Licensing team.
  • Drive process improvements and standardisation, with support from the Licensing team.
  • Ensure processes operate effectively, maintain quality and accuracy of all financial processes and ensure analysis meets requirements. Ensure compliance with Licensing Sarbox controls.
  • Key contact in Licensing team for Deloitte and 3rd party Audits on royalties.
  • Work with Licensing FD and FM to help drive third party audits instigated by GSK.
  • Prepare, coordinate and communicate annual Budget royalty rates.
  • Support FM with the review of draft Licensing agreements to ensure pre-execution compliance ability.
  • Review and agree correct accounting treatment on new Licensing agreements.
  • Ensure GSK standard terms and conditions have been applied in new agreements and consistency of terms, conditions and definitions across the existing contracts, with a view to developing summaries in conjunction with Legal and Patents.
  • Develop business partnerships with key contacts in Legal, Patents, Finance, the Business and Franchise teams.
  • Maintain relevant process documentation to meet Sarbanes-Oxley requirements.

DELIVERABLES/SCOPE:

  • Prepare monthly and quarterly Intangibles and Balance sheet reconciliations, with analysis on significant movements.
  • Establish links with key partners in the Business, Finance, Legal and Patents.
  • Support Finance Manager in providing detailed analysis for audits and disputes.
  • Manage own portfolio of agreements e.g. accruals, payments and respond to any ad-hoc queries.
  • Maintain relevant process controls and documentation to meet Sarbanes-Oxley requirements.
  • Drive process improvements and standardisation.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Educated to Degree Level.
  • Member of Professional Finance Institute (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) 2+yr PQE
  • Experience of working with legal agreements or contracts.
  • High degree of competence in Financial Accounting.
  • Sound knowledge of current accounting standards as they apply to GSK with ideally a good knowledge of GSK’s financial processes and systems e.g SAP and BISON.
  • Strong analytical skills, with accuracy/attention to detail/integrity in producing results
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and effective influencing skills.
  • Assist in the delivery of continuous improvement in reporting cycles and quality of information.
  • Challenge existing accounting and analysis processes to ensure they provide high quality information on a timely basis.
  • Results focused, planning and prioritising, meeting deadlines and delivering results.
