Finance Director: R2R, Close and Control, Finance Transformation


  • The R2R GPO team has an ambitious road map to deliver in 2019, and onwards, including supporting the Global Finance Transformation Program announced mid-November
  • The R2R GPO team have been focusedon delivering significant projects in a few key areas. Roles are being reassigned to processes to ensure clear accountability

Job Purpose

  • In order to achieve upper quartile, Best in Class, finance processes by 2020 this role is required to build, standardise and maintain GSK’s R2R processes whilst optimising the Operating Model.

Process & Policy

  • Design, document and deploy optimised, standardised processes across finance for the general ledger close and submission of consolidated accounts
  • Review and update policy to optimise process
  • Ensure controls are optimised to balance risk and efficiency
  • Drive an accelerated month end close


  • Work with our Finance Outsourced provider Genpact to deliver Regional Hubs and Centres of Expertise for the period end close including E2E taxonomy to optimise efficiency and effectiveness
  • Ensure Taxonomy is defined and documented. Arbitrate on any issues related to clarity of taxonomy or where changes are proposed


  • Partner with the Process and Systems director to develop a clear roadmap of ERP, RPA and Niche tools to optimise the processes
  • Accountable for optimising policy, process and system in line with the Trintech Cadency functionality and roadmap agree with R2R GPO Transformation Director
  • Provide Leadership for systems projects such as ERP enhancements and RPA

Performance Management

  • Ensure Performance Management Measures are in place and in use for these processes. These will be used in the Ops Board to measure compliance


  • Accountable for determining how new accounting standards will impact R2R Reporting and ensure new processes are put in place. If there is a significant change e.g. requiring systems investment, then a project charter must be raised and taken to R2R Steerco. Accounting standards relating to I/Co, FA or BSC are not in scope for this role.
  • Accountable for identifying and driving benefits delivery. This activity will be supported by the Project and Benefits Delivery Manager who will prepare the analysis of targeted benefits and drive and track the savings
  • Ensure staff development and succession planning
  • Partner with Supply Chain Accounting to ensure alignment of targets and close process

Required level of Experience

  • Experience in managing the navigation of decisions and/or their execution through multiple parties in major, matrixed organisations
  • Fluency in GSK’s finance processes and organisational structure
  • Prior experience in transformation and/or change programmes at global/enterprise level, with a track record of achievement in this role (typically 3-5 years of experience)
  • Experience of SAP/ERP architecture
  • Ability to coordinate several activities at once, quickly analyse and resolve specific problems
  • Ability to manage tasks, work independently, and proceed with objectives with minimal supervision
