Role title – Scientific Writer (GSK)

Rates - £600 per day PAYE

Location – London

Work type – Hybrid 2-3 days in office

Contract length – 12 months

 

Our client GSK are looking for a talented scientific writer who would like to build a career at the intersection of artificial intelligence-machine learning (AI/ML) and the discovery of new medicines and vaccines. The Sr. Manager of AI/ML Communications will be a strong science and tech writer who is able to translate complex topics in a variety of mediums (video, written, infographics), creates workflows and adopt a project management approach, excels at motivating internal partners and external agencies and can drive effective collaboration with subject matter experts in the AI/ML team.

This role will be responsible for the development the external and internal communications content to support the overall story of AI/ML and delivering digital comms for GSK.ai, the website for a global cutting-edge team, building proprietary algorithms that is setting the bar for pharma AIML. The AIML team, in conjunction with Genomic Sciences and clinical development is helping to deliver on GSK’s Innovation objectives to help find transformational medicines more efficiently and with a higher probability of success.

This role will be part of our global AI/ML team and is a terrific development opportunity for a rising star communicator reporting to the Head of AI/ML Operations. You will be responsible for developing content for GSK.ai, including summaries of peer-review and other publications, profiles of key members of the team, composing content to be shared across internal stakeholders to tell the story of the work that is being delivered within the AIML team.

 

The Sr. Manager will serve as a key member of the team and work closely with all of the AIML team including the SVP AIML and his leadership team. In addition, this role will:

 

  • Lead development of content and editorial planning for GSK.ai and coordinate the approval processes of content related to GSK.ai
  • Support the development of compelling content which can be shared across GSK to raise the profile of the work the AIML team are delivering
  • Provide strategic, internal communications business advice and counsel to the AIML team
  • Ensure effective programming and pull-through of key communications campaigns to the AIML team
  • Cultivate and build strong, positive relationships with other R&D teams, Business Units, key stakeholders and with communications partners
  • Support the engagement within the AIML team, developing content that can be used on the intranet sites within GSK
  • Role model GSK values (accountable for impact, ambitious for patients, do the right thing)

 

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum 7 years of communications related experience, including 4-5 years of demonstrated expertise in at least three of the following areas:
  • Strategic communications experience building and executing external communications plans and internal campaigns
  • Strong storytelling abilities, especially experience in new media (e.g. video, digital, infographics, timelines, etc.)
  • Technical (AI/ML) or pharmaceutical/scientific knowledge
  • Agency experience developing creative collateral
  • Brand, culture and engagement work
  • Employee communications planning and execution
  • Strong interpersonal skills with multiple and diverse stakeholders
  • Strategic and creative thinker who knows how to construct compelling stories that will resonate with both internal/external audiences and can manage a deliberate development process, including strong project management skills
  • Proven experience developing content across a range of platforms and media (digital-friendly, visual/storytelling style, such as videos and infographics); versatility in creating content and willingness to innovate
  • Strong logistics and organization skills, eg, background in designing, planning and executing large meetings for internal audiences, with attention to detail and the full audience experience

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree
  • Early research science and technology-based R&D approaches
  • Patient advocacy and consumer engagement
  • Good knowledge, insight and understanding of the R&D space and operating environment of GSK’s innovation platform
