The R&D Tech Innovation Hub is a multi-disciplinary team, aspiring to be on the forefront of Technology, delivering excellent results on critically important systems using scalable solutions and powerful technologies. The team is empowered by leadership to ideate, create, and productionize novel, ground-breaking, high-value solutions for increasingly complex and critical challenges. We create new technical platforms and services which support the growth and acceleration of our R&D Business groups. The use cases we work on vary in application such as data pipelines, data streaming, knowledge graphs, AI/ML, container orchestration, and more.

Job Description

The team is looking for an experienced Software Engineer and Tech Lead to develop and deliver flexible and scalable solutions. Someone who is adept at, and has a penchant for, learning new technologies. The senior technical lead will play a key role in providing architectural guidance, development, and implementation of distributed software applications. The candidate will provide leadership and guidance to the development team for best practices with design and development of software. The candidate should also be able to break down large monolithic solutions into modular, reusable components.

This role requires a high level of technical expertise; as well as soft-skills for organization, planning, and communication with key stakeholders and leadership. The position has no people management responsibilities, but you will be mentoring junior developers on the team and defining good development practices to follow.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Assist in hiring and training in technical personnel
  • Delegation of work to team members
  • Collaboration with team members to identify and fix technical issues
  • Analysis of user needs and participation in solution design
  • Ensuring software and applications are updated
  • Defining good software development practices for the team to follow

Basic Qualifications

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • Good experience working in Tech and Digital organizations as a Software Engineer or Software Developer
  • Proficiency in at least one modern language such as Java, Scala, C++, go
  • Experience in leading development teams and technical projects
  • Experience in working with Cloud resource (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Experience in working with cloud native and container technologies
  • Minimum experience as a mentor, tech lead, or leading an engineering team
  • Experience with fundamentals of Business Driven Development, Test Driven Development, or Domain Driven Design
  • Experience with fundamentals of Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in the following domains will be of great benefit:

  • Streaming data experience with technologies like Kafka, Flink, Storm, Spark
  • Experience operating in a highly regulated and secure environment
  • Managing kubernetes clusters at scale
  • Experience implementing traffic management with API Gateways and Service Mesh solutions
  • Experience implementing GitOps deployment patterns
  • Expertise with non-imperative paradigms – Haskell, F#, Typescript or Open Policy Access Rego
  • Experience in Site Reliability Engineering
