Category Manager (Construction / Capex)

Role Brief:

Deliver Capex projects (Capital Expenditure) in UK and Republic of Ireland region, for Global Supply Chain and WREF (Worldwide Real Estate and Facilities), circa 10 sites, dealing with complex sourcing, logistics and quality issues in a fast paced and challenging environment

• Ensure successful project delivery (safety, cost, quality, time) against business targets, customer expectations, compliance requirements and total cost of ownership

• Effectively manage stakeholder relationships with internal customers and external suppliers

Primary Tasks & Responsibilities

• Deliver Capex projects of the region

o Acting as a Global procurement partner supporting Capex projects from earliest project stage

o Accountable to define and execute contracting and procurement strategy of Capex projects (e.g. EPCM, EPC, IPD) taking into account project triggers and according to Category strategies (supported for the packages sourcing by Category owners)

o Accountable for contract management

o Role of sharing of suppliers information/performance/issues with other Category Managers and being supported by them upon request

o Manage relationship with main contractors dedicated to Capex projects and conduct regular business reviews with senior management to ensure GSK requirements are met, employing supplier evaluation and continuous improvement management

o Promote innovation and ideas coming from supplier base to challenge internal position to reduce cost and timing

• Sourcing and Implementation of Capital construction services in the Region

o Capital construction services: Engineering Services, Project Controls and Project Management Service, HVAC and E/I installation, mechanical and piping installation, civil works and cleanrooms installation

o Source: execute competitive selection, negotiation and contract management of selected critical categories

• Support various procurement activities of Facilities Real Estate and Capital Construction Procurement team

Required Experience & Knowledge

• Minimum 10 years experience in Procurement, ideally in Construction or Capex

• Must have an good understanding about technical categories present within all capital projects: building services and process/biotech equipment, construction and technical contractors

• Demonstrated category management experience: the candidate has developed and implemented several category strategies - generating value in terms of quality, delivery, cost, contributing significantly to organization’s goals and objectives

• Extensive experience across key procurement processes:

o Category strategy and Category management

o Market analysis

o Request for Information / Request for Proposals / Request for Quotations

o Negotiation

o Contract Management

o Supplier Performance Evaluation & Supplier Relationship Management

o Project management of full end-to-end sourcing process on defined purchasing categories

• Ability to leverage past experience and industry knowledge to continuously motivate change both inside & outside area of direct responsibilities

• Strong Synthesis and analytical skills, ability to extract key information from complex set of data

• Result, value and performance oriented with management / consultancy experience gained in a fast moving, results oriented business environment

• Strong knowledge of NEC4 contracts

• Good project management skills

• Developed and effective negotiation skills
