Business Performance & Change Manager


12 month contract starting January 2021

Remote / Brentford



Job Purpose:


Drive the identification, implementation and embedding of strategies to improve business performance and the effectiveness of clinical development in Pharma R&D


Accountability:

  • Be a key contributor to business improvement projects, aligned with R&D strategy, to deliver measurable and sustained improvements primarily (but not exclusively) within the Clinical Development arena.
  • Provide change leadership and/or project management, as required, across the lifecycle of projects
  • Apply, propagate and embed appropriate GSK methodologies and best practice for all change and project management activities undertaken
  • Enable the efficient and effective execution of R&D strategy, through driving delivery-to-plan of high-impact Pharma R&D projects
  • Contribute to the realisation and long term sustainability of the benefits / improvements delivered, through effective engagement and alignment of impacted functions, communities and stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle


A Business Performance & Change Management (BP&CM) Manager (works on projects that have high impact and typically high degree of uncertainty and novelty in their approach and solution. Key capabilities include


Formulation of delivery and implementation strategy

oBasic understand of strategy formulation, business context

oContribute to strategy formulation

oMake value-add contribute to the development of clinical business capability enhancement funding proposal


Change management

oEnable delivery through target setting, planning, tracking and reporting

oApply continuous improvement thinking


Project management

oTranslate objectives to clear deliverables, work packages, resourcing, and meetings

oManage and coordinate team members or smaller teams towards delivery

oFacilitate functional meetings towards actionable outcomes and resolutions


Insightful analytics

oInterpret data generating relevant insights and highlighting implications


R&D and industry knowledge

oHave basic understanding of GSK’s R&D portfolio, processes, and structure

oHave business aptitude and ability to draw on approaches in other organisations


Experience required:

  • Prior work in teams that facilitate and drive strategic decisions and/or business change with a track record of high achievement in this role
  • Prior work on R&D strategy or change projects
  • Experience in navigating decisions and/or execution through multiple parties in major, matrixed organisations
  • Change Management working in a matrix environment
  • Change within Agile delivery
  • Communication & engagement techniques
  • Confidence to work with a technical, data-centric analytical audience


Preferred experience:

  • Consulting/advisory experience at senior management level (e.g., through strategy role or change initiatives in industry, or in a professional services organisation)
  • Industry R&D operational experience (i.e., a member of drug project or platform teams)
