Senior Scientist, Molecular Design and Engineering, Biopharm Discovery

Description

We are looking for a highly motivated lab-based senior scientist who is experienced in molecular biology techniques to work with project teams to enable the discovery of antibodies and bispecific antibodies. Responsibilities will include the design of antibody/bispecific antibody-encoding constructs, working with our antibody expression scientists to coordinate antibody/bispecific antibody expression and purification, contributing to quality control of antibody/bispecific antibody samples, performing data analysis and reporting results to agreed timelines, including oral presentation of results at group and departmental meetings. The successful applicant will be comfortable working as part of a team and particularly enjoy working collaboratively, as the ability to form productive interactions with scientists across GSK will be key for success in this role.

Key responsibilities:

• Work closely with project teams to understand antibody/bispecific antibody molecular design requirements

• Design and order antibody/bispecific antibody-encoding constructs from our suppliers. Perform sequence validation for DNA constructs (analysis of Sanger sequencing data) and register these in relevant GSK databases.

• Work with our in-house antibody expression teams to coordinate/perform protein expression in mammalian cell culture systems and purification of the expressed antibodies/bispecific antibodies.

• Perform and coordinate biophysical characterisation of antibody/bispecific antibody samples

• Data analysis and interpretation. Deliver regular oral presentations to share data with project teams.

• Contribute to experimental design and planning of technology development work packages

Required Qualifications:

• PhD or equivalent experience in protein engineering, molecular biology or a related discipline.

• Strong molecular biology or protein engineering skills, preferably with antibodies.

• Proficient with standard software packages for DNA construct design and sequence analyses/validation.

• Experience in the expression of proteins, preferably antibodies, in mammalian cell culture and purification thereof.

• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.

• Ability to review and assimilate new information effectively.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in analytical/biophysical characterisation of proteins, preferably antibodies

• Experience in pharmaceutical/biotech industry, working in a relevant field

• Knowledge and understanding of the antibody discovery process.

• Knowledge of or experience in working with technologies that underpin bispecific antibodies, novel antibody formats, bioconjugation and/or altered antibody effector function.

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
