Planning & Control Manager

Job Purpose and Key Responsibilities:

The Planning and Control Manager for the area/function will deliver the detailed and overall project schedules to agreed quality standards and ensure accurate progress tracking. They will ensure dependencies between functions and other projects are proactively managed.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Producing robust plans for markets and /or function plans
  • Accurate progress tracking and forward looking escalations
  • Ensuring cross programme dependencies are identified and managed
  • Acting as an escalation point for re-planning within a phase
  • Defining, documenting and delivering planning process
  • Coaching and training PM in use of PMO tools
  • Owning the plan/milestone related change control process
  • Identifying and planning the deliverables, dependencies and interfaces between the projects internally, and other external programmes
  • Undertaking risk assessment of each schedule
  • Identifying potential gaps in the project delivery
  • 5 years previous experience of working in a scheduling/planning role on a programme on a large business change programme is essential

Specialised Knowledge:

  • Excellent MS Project skills
  • MS Project Online with Power BI highly desirable
  • Experience of coaching PMs in planning
  • Proven ability to manage inter and intra project dependencies
  • Large scale programme sizing/estimating
  • Defining and documenting planning and tracking processes
  • Proven ability to undertake project planning, risk assessment, risk and issue management, all pertaining to large scale transformation programmes
  • Integrated change management skills, in particular the ability to deliver a credible/feasible integrated change management plans
  • Ability to conceptualise complex problems and propose simple low risk solutions

Basic Requirements:

  • Experience of MS Project Server
  • Possess formal qualifications in Project and/or Programme Management (pref. PRINCE2, APMP, MSP. PMP)
  • Powerpoint and Excel skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills

Preferred Requirements:

  • Relevant to the role, but not critical/essential
  • Useful to have experience of FMCG businesses.
  • Useful to have experience of Healthcare or Pharma businesses.
