Business Operations Analyst

Role overview:

A key objective of the role is to bring greater consistency, transparency and more effective controls to Core Tech financial management. As the organisation is under change process, there is a need both to support operational financial decisions as well as help evaluate strategic options. It includes designing and delivering information on headcount, contract and depreciation costs; organizing it into a comprehensive service costing model as well as partnering Service owners and other stakeholders in understanding and making proper use of the information.

Core Tech operates IT infrastructure services [telecommunications / enterprise computing / end user computing] globally on behalf of GSK. Annual expenditure exceeds £250m. Core Tech uses service costing to evaluate efficiency of spend as well as to take decisions on allocating resources to relevant technologies. Being able to manage those data centrally is a strategic asset used continuously by senior management. The regular production of accurate data is of critical importance to the organization.

Key objectives:

  • Provide timely and accurate information to fulfil service costs data requirements within IT
  • Build understanding of delivered information among stakeholders
  • Develop analytical tools, skills, training across Core Tech to increase knowledge of relevant service costs
  • Standardise and simplify data gathering in order to reduce overhead on service colleagues

Key responsibilities:

  • Work with staff in Finance and service colleagues within Core Tech to ensure service cost data is prepared and published in a timely manner and is of high quality
  • Prepare and publish reports to stakeholders in Core Tech and beyond to show service costing progress
  • Provide explanations as to differences from expectation / trend
  • Work to standardise and simplify service costing work in Core Tech
  • Establish service costing as an operational service ie develop from the current ‘project’ mode into an embedded service with clearly defined processes and accountabilities
  • Support Finance in the segmentation process that defines intra-GSK charges for IT services
  • Identify and develop initiatives to improve the effectiveness over time of Core Tech service costing work

Skills and preferred experience:

  • Excellent IT Infrastructure knowledge is required
  • Very numerate and have strong Excel / system and data manipulation skills
  • Key experience preferred: working on major budget areas and transformations
  • Thorough, detail oriented and comfortable working with complex sets of data
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to interact with various levels of Core Tech service teams and work with Core Tech LT members and Finance colleagues.
  • Familiarity with – or ability to quickly assimilate - financial and accounting principles as they relate to treatment of expenditures and impact on our cost analysis
  • Able to produce clear and concise management reports
  • Good personal organisation skill – able to manage simultaneously multiple tasks and processes
  • Relevant experience within a technology service operation and/or financial m’gmt of a technology service.
  • Working knowledge of the relationship between a technical service and its cost factors and ability to dive into the details and drivers.
