Senior Scientist

Pay: up to £14.17 per hour (PAYE)


Genetic Toxicology R&D


Job Summary

  • This role is for a laboratory based scientist to join and contribute to the capability & project research function of the group.
  • Following appropriate training, the scientist will be expected to conduct research, collate and analyse experimental data, write scientific reports/summaries. They will also be expected to present the results of their work both internally or externally to the unit, as appropriate.


Objectives:

  • Contribute to the evaluation of new technologies or to investigate issues associated with the risk assessment of genetic damage.
  • Involvement in general laboratory management duties throughout the year to support Discovery Support & Regulatory functions of the unit, as required
  • Timely and quality performance/reporting of studies
  • Transparency (access) of data and knowledge.


Basic qualifications:

  • BSc degree or equivalent in biology or related field
  • Demonstrated technical dexterity and experience in assay development
  • Excellent problem solving skills (flexible thinking)
  • Highly motivated with commitment to continuous improvement
  • Demonstrated scientific agility to balance multiple projects while maintaining highly focused attention to detail
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a matrix team environment and independently execute experiments
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in basic tissue culture work (desirable but not essential).
  • Experience in flow cytometry (desirable but not essential).
  • Experience in study conduct of in vivo experimentation (desirable but not essential).
  • Ability to effectively review data and interpret results.
  • Communication skills: Required to produce clear communication to matrix & management teams.
  • Time-management: Ability to work to agreed timelines.
  • Basic understanding of the drug development process
  • Basic understanding of genetics
