General Responsibilities

Key delivery accountabilities include:

  • design, support and administration of infrastructure solutions and services, physical or virtual, resident in DWP or 3rd party facilities according to industry and organisational best practise standards and service requirements and KPIs throughout the lifecycle
  • creating and maintaining documentation
  • performing all routine tasks according to process and checklists
  • performing and/or overseeing the administration and support of all infrastructure solutions and services
  • monitoring of infrastructure services and alerts and taking appropriate action
  • managing and progressing of incidents and problems, acting as 3rd line support for incidents, problems and changes to infrastructure solutions and services
  • provide technical support and assistance
  • to projects ensuring delivery of requisite non-functional requirements
  • continual service improvement

  • coach and mentor junior team members to assist the delivery of

Essential Skills

  • design build, configuration,
  • administration and support of infrastructure technologies and solutions – hardware, software, commercial off the shelf (COTS) and opensource packages/solutions, virtual and cloud including IaaS, PaaS, SaaS, DBaaS
  • ITIL Service Operation (particularly Request Fulfilment, Incident/Problem/Change Management) and with experience of Service Transition
  • Monitoring and event management To be successful in the role you will be an expert in the following: At different levels, across support and engineering, business users, architecture and 3rd party suppliers.
  • Experience in data centre design, engineering and consultancy;
  • Expert level experience and successful track record of design, build and operations of data centre services in large scale organisations, including;

o Data Centre fabric build across multiple geographic locations.

o Data Centre Layout o Structured Cable Design

o Data Centre Physical Security

o Data Centre Management

o Data Centre Process Implementation Desirable

  • other areas of technology and solutions – exposure to/or technical capability across projects and service lifecycle e.g. applications development, DevOps, solutions architecture
  • Service reporting - production of management information and reports, dashboards etc.
  • supporting services that are aligned to the business strategy and operational requirements
  • exposure to structured problem management and troubleshooting
  • experience of ITIL Service Transition
  • awareness of project methodologies such as Agile, PRINCE2

Infrastructure Engineer The Infrastructure Engineer:

As per the Infrastructure Engineer, plus;

  • provides input in to overall management – workforce, budget, projects and tasks, technology roadmaps
  • provides capability to projects, developments and campaigns
  • oversees and supports the performance and development of capability in junior team members As an Infrastructure Engineer (Data Centre Operations) you will provide engineering capability to design, build and operate infrastructure services and solutions for the DWP.
